X10 Barking Dog: Common questions

Question:

Can the amplified speaker unit be mounted at any height?
Is there any wiring to be done?
What is the max distance between the external unit and the speaker unit for good operation?
What is the range of the external unit and at what height should it be mounted? (ours will not be going over the front door)
Will the system be set of by tree branches waving in the wind or a cat walking along the drive?

Thanks for your help!

Answer:

Yes the amplified unit can be at any height, however you would need a shelf as there are no mounting holes on the back of it. You also need to be able to reach an electric socket.

No wiring required. The PIR(which runs on standard batteries) sends its signal to the dog unit by RF(Radio frequency).

The distance between external PIR and internal unit depends on several things like how many wallls/doors it has to pass through and their construction. However 20 feet is probably a good rule of thumb. If this is a problem there areways to improve this.

PIR range is about 25 feet. Mounting height is your choice, the PIR can be adjusted up/down.

The PIR is detecting movement of a heat source, branches shouldn't set it off but a cat would, also it is essential that the detector is NOT mounted in direct sunlight or in any reflections, as this will certainly cause false alarms.

Hope this helps
