What is it?
The X10 Lamp and Appliance bundle has been designed as a starter pack to give you remote control of two plug in lamps (desk lamps, etc) and two appliances.
It can also be used to control four plug in lamps by using the appliance modules as lamp controllers. This is especially useful if you have low voltage halogen/LED/energy saving lighting which cannot be switched with a normal lamp module
How it works
The modules plug in between the mains wall socket and the appliance/light and allow simple, discreet control of the appliance or lamp via X10 commands.
The lamp modules can be dimmed and brightened by remote control. The appliance modules can only be switched on and off - they don't support dimming (but they can switch larger loads and energy saving lamps).
The transceiver module is plugged into a wall socket in the house, and picks up the wireless signals from the hand-held remote control. These signals are then sent on the powerline in the form of X10 messages to switch the devices on and off
Uses
This bundle is an ideal home automation starting point, giving you wireless control of four lights or two lights and two appliances. By adding a computer module you can control the lamps with a PC, and you can expand your home automation set-up by adding any of the X10 products from this site.
