The Marmitek appliance module is a receiver unit that works as a remote controlled switch or relay. You can plug it into any plug socket in the house and control the unit attached to it via X10 commands.
Details
The appliance module can switch incandescent lamps up to 500W, appliances with electric motors up to 230W.
As the X-10 switch is simply inserted into wall sockets like an ordinary plug, there is no installation to be carried out. Just set the wheels on the front to the desired device address (eg. G7) and note this address down.
The load connected to the switch module can still be controlled locally by its own switch, but dont forget to leave the local switch in the "ON" position, as otherwise the load cannot be controlled by an X-10 controller. Switch the load off by remote control. The unit responds to "standard" X-10 commands. ie. All-Units-Off, On and Off.

This is my first use of X10. The modules work as advertised, though as control systems go they are
a) noisy to switch (the internal relays make a pretty loud 'clunk' when switching.)
b) slow. Taking any thring from 1second to 10seconds to actually switch. (Presumably this is an X10 limitation and is quite possibly related to individual circumstances - i.e. how much power line noise there is.)

Simple and straightforward. The way it shoul be. I prefer this to later version the PLC-P 2027UK.

Another great X10 product - why are these not so much more popular? Simple, effective and very cost effective - these should be available in every store (B&Q) and should be in every home. The marketing should be much better, rarely does such a good product have such a low profile.....they really work!

Works as expected and quicker than expected shipping from UKAutomation. No problems using and controlling this device connected to a CM11 controlled off a computer. A great starter to home automation, but once a proof of concept is working I'll definitely be moving to hidden inline modules.

Does exactly what is says on the tin. Easy to use product. I'm currently using this in conjunction with a MT12 mini-timer to act as a timer for our boiler. The boiler is located in a garage with a standard plug in timer controlling it. Not very useful if you happen to be in when the timer switches to off, it meant a trip to open the garage and change the timer. X10 solved this problem with no wiring.
Telephone support during office hours, and email support quite often out of hours too!
